The town of Orange lies below Mount Canobolas, and ancient volcano 1395 metres above sea level, often capped with snow in winter. The rich basalt soils, regular rainfall and cool climate produce wines of distinctive elegance and character. In fact Phillip Shaw (ex Rosemount winemaker) made the move from Victoria to Orange because he thinks it’s one of the best places in Australia to make wine.
Both Cabernet and Merlot have found a natural home in Orange and, either singly or blended together, they’re nothing short of sublime. The Cabernet typically features elegant blackberry, cassis and chocolate characters, with a light, lovely herbal touch. Merlot sings with soft plum and spice characters, and a velvety smooth texture. Foodwise, take a visit to your local growers market and stock up on whatever looks best – new season lamb, a steak and mushroom pie, or a rustic country terrine. Beautiful!.
